Overview

A high-security industrial facility depends on its gates. Every vehicle, truck and visitor passing through affects the safety of the whole site, so a gate here is a core part of the security system and not just an entrance.

The client came to Smart Tec through a government tender to replace its ageing entrance gates with modern motorized sliding gates. The work was delivered well, and over the next four years it grew into a long-term partnership covering telescopic sliding gates, boom barriers and tyre killers.

This case study walks through each phase, the challenges, and how Smart Tec delivered a complete gate automation solution on every job.

The Challenge

The client needed more than a straightforward gate replacement. The requirements were demanding:

  • Safe removal of the existing gates without compromising site security while work was in progress
  • Heavy-duty gates able to handle the daily load of a busy industrial entrance
  • Fire-rated sliding gate motors suited to a high-risk industrial facility
  • A high-quality paint finish that holds up against coastal weather, humidity and industrial exposure
  • A single accountable vendor for civil work, fabrication, automation and commissioning, with no hand-offs between agencies
  • Strict tender specifications and delivery timelines on a government project

What Smart Tec Delivered Across Four Phases

Heavy-duty motorized sliding gates installed at government industrial facility Dahej

Phase 1 (2022): Six Heavy-Duty Motorized Sliding Gates, Start to Finish

The first tender was for six motorized sliding gates covering the facility's entry and exit points. Smart Tec managed every step in-house.

  • 1. Removal of the existing gates: Our team dismantled and removed the old gates in a planned sequence so that site access and security stayed intact throughout.
  • 2. Civil work: We prepared the foundations, tracks and support structures for the new gates, including the groundwork that sliding gates need for smooth, long-life operation.
  • 3. Heavy-duty fabrication: Each gate was built to a high specification, with a strong frame and a rigid build suited to long spans and daily industrial use.
  • 4. Full painting and finishing: Every gate was fully painted with a protective finish for durability, weather resistance and a clean look in line with the site's standards.
  • 5. Fire-rated sliding gate motors: We used fire-rated, heavy-duty sliding gate motors chosen for the demands of a high-risk facility, giving reliable and consistent operation.
  • 6. Installation, automation and commissioning: Smart Tec installed the gates, integrated the gate automation controls, tested every safety feature and commissioned the system.

Result: Six new gates were handed over, fully functional, with one team accountable from the first dismantling to final commissioning.

Phase 2 (2024): Two Telescopic Sliding Gates

Two years later, the same client came back with a new tender for two telescopic sliding gates.

Telescopic sliding gates suit locations where there is not enough side space for a full-length sliding gate. Their sections slide over each other, so a wide opening needs far less room alongside it. The precision required is high, because the sections must align and move smoothly under motor power.

Smart Tec delivered both telescopic gates with the same standards of fabrication, finish and automation as Phase 1. Because we understood the site and the client's expectations, the work moved faster and with less friction.

Result: Wide openings with compact space requirements, and secure, smooth automated operation.

Phase 3 (2025): Motorized Sliding Gate, Boom Barrier and Tyre Killer

In 2025, the client awarded a third tender that went beyond gates into complete vehicle access control. Smart Tec supplied and installed three product types:

  • Motorized sliding gate: for secure, heavy-duty entry control
  • Automatic boom barrier: for fast, controlled vehicle flow at checkpoints
  • Tyre killer (road blocker): for high-security, one-way vehicle control

Together these form a layered security setup. The boom barrier manages everyday traffic, the sliding gate secures the perimeter, and the tyre killer adds a strong deterrent against unauthorised or wrong-way entry.

Result: A multi-layer vehicle access system, built by a single vendor.

Phase 4 (2026): Another Tyre Killer

In 2026, the client placed another order, this time for one more tyre killer. This repeat order reflects a security solution that performed well in the field.

Why the Client Kept Choosing Smart Tec

Frequently Asked Questions

A motorized sliding gate moves along a track, driven by an electric motor and operated by remote, access control or a control panel. It suits industrial and commercial sites with heavy daily traffic.

A telescopic sliding gate has multiple sections that slide over each other. Choose it when you need a wide opening but don't have enough space beside the gate for a conventional sliding gate.

A tyre killer is a security barrier that lets vehicles pass in one direction only. Vehicles that enter the wrong way are stopped by the spikes. It is widely used at high-security sites.
